Forming negative past continuous tense sentences

After a few lessons on forming negative sentences and questions, we should be getting the hang of it. We will continue to learn to form negative sentences and questions for every tense so that it becomes a second nature to us. 😎

To form a negative sentence in the past continuous tense, we add "not" after the helping verb (was/were), followed by the main verb with -ing. This structure is used to show that an action was not happening at a specific moment in the past.

Examples

helping verb not …

1. They / wait / for the train at 5 PM

2. I / study / last night

3. She / cook / dinner / when I arrive

4. He / read / a book / when it starts to rain

5. We / talk / during the meeting
